Computers

Happy Birthday to Alan Turing! (23-Jun-1912-7-Jun-1954)

To honor the Father and Founder of Computer science, let's talk about computers.
Alan Turing was a British mathematician, cryptographer, and computer scientist scientist often credited as the founder of computer science
Computers. Most of our children have computers at home. Like my own children (13 &10) they were raised with computers and our my resident experts. But with my Pre-K kiddos, I  teach them computer literacy and etiquette. I am fortunate to have 2 new flat screen dell computers in my classroom. Thank you ALC school board!

Simon Says - Let's Learn the Computer Parts

1. Introduce the students to the parts of the computer (monitor, keyboard, mouse, printer, etc.) with an oral lesson.
2. Reinforce the terms with a bulletin board display. I use flash card and pocket charts.
3. Have the students play the "Simon Says" (or use another term for Simon) game with computer parts.
Example - Simon says touch the mouse; Simon says point to the monitor; Simon says gently press the keyboard spacebar;
Simon says point to the printer in the room; Simon says click your nose like a mouse, etc.

Put a little words in their life

Poetry

I remember the time I learned my first poem. (yes, I knew lots of nursery rhymes). It was in my 5th grade classroom. Ms. S. had us copy, memorize and recite Robert Frost's Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening. I loved it. And have loved Frost's poetry ever since.

I use poetry weekly in my classroom. I make large posters with the poem and pictures. I tend to use theme related poetry.

But I love this idea I found on www.countingcocoanuts.blogspot.com.

Poetry Baskets.

This month's poetry basket is about Spring. I just love the poem and I was excited to be able to find lots of tactile elements to accompany it.

I found this idea while I was researching Realia- the method of using real objects in instruction.

I think I will use poetry baskets as a reinforcement of large group Poems.

When I pick up my students in the morning this is what I see.....

Kids on iPads. Kids on iPhones.
