Put a little words in their life

Poetry

I remember the time I learned my first poem. (yes, I knew lots of nursery rhymes). It was in my 5th grade classroom. Ms. S. had us copy, memorize and recite Robert Frost's Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening. I loved it. And have loved Frost's poetry ever since.

I use poetry weekly in my classroom. I make large posters with the poem and pictures. I tend to use theme related poetry.

But I love this idea I found on www.countingcocoanuts.blogspot.com.

Poetry Baskets.

This month's poetry basket is about Spring. I just love the poem and I was excited to be able to find lots of tactile elements to accompany it.

I found this idea while I was researching Realia- the method of using real objects in instruction.

I think I will use poetry baskets as a reinforcement of large group Poems.
